Top 5 Cafes in Hobart

I’ve accepted the fact that I will eventually (be lucky enough to) move to Tasmania. My husband has a connection to his home like no one I’ve ever known before. It’s actually really special and something I adore about him. When he took me to Hobart for the first time, four and a bit years ago,  I was blown away by how picturesque it was. It feels cozy even though it’s freezing and it’s bursting with gorgeous colours and hills that remind me so much of New Zealand. The people are warm and drivers always let you cross the road, Salamanca markets are the cutest, Mona is epic and there also seems to be some sort of festival every second weekend. A huge highlight for this Sydney native is that traffic is virtually non existent but as you’d expect from a small town the down side is that previously there hasn’t been a HUGE selection of the “mainland” style shops and cafes. However, over these last four years it seems that every time we go back a new cool place pops up for us to try. As more and more people cotton on to how incredible Tasmania is, I expect this list will grow longer and longer but for now I’ll keep it short.

While I’ve narrowed it down to my 5 favourites but it’s safe to say that I could definitely pick quite a few more…

Coffee from Sunbear

Sunbear

This place makes me feel like I’ve popped over to grandma’s house for a cuppa. It has a small (but tasty) menu and limited seats making it feel very homely and welcoming. Sit in the cosy nooks they’ve created whilst you drink delicious All Press coffee and stare at all the sweet treats. If I can give you one piece of advice….GET THE CHEESY SCONES!!!! (Open Tues-Saturday)

Born In Brunswick

This Melbourne style cafe is definitely aesthetically pleasing. It’s big, bright and light filled with lots of windows which is perfect for enjoying a sunny Hobart day or meeting a group of people. The food is locally sourced and seasonal and the coffee is always delicious. It’s reliably consistent, tasty food that looks super fancy.

Two Folk Espresso

Every single time i’ve had a coffee I’ve been impressed. They use Single Origin beans and pride themselves on making a premium cup of coffee to go. They have a few little take away treats and a few sit in chairs but the main feature is the consistently good coffee. If you don’t believe me then you could just ask the long line of people that are usually waiting outside to order their next cup.

(Open Mon-Sat)

Straight Up Coffee and Food

Entirely gluten free, vego AND delicious. What more could you want? In house roasted coffee? Got it. Refined sugar free treats? Tick! Care about the planet and use bio packaging? Yep! They’re basically just running the dream cafe and I’m a huge fan.

Giddy Up Food Store

You could pick literally ANYTHING of the breakfast menu and be happy here. It is cosy up front with a little courtyard outback (with heaters) and could possibly be my favourite of the lot. The food is really fresh and healthy and it has the added bonus of it being pet friendly! (Open Tuesday-Sunday)

Let me know if you go! I hope you enjoy,
